The graduate study in Astronomy is performed at the Physical Department
of Kharkiv Karazin National
University. Admission is 12 persons. A Bachelor of Science in Astronomy
and Physics
takes four years to complete, and a Master of Science in Astronomy
takes one year more.
Students get the fundamental training in the
general and theoretical physics, mathematics,
computer sciences. They study spherical astronomy, position astronomy, celestial mechanics,
general and theoretical astrophysics, planetary, stellar and extragalactic astronomy,
and cosmology. Observation and research skills can be developed through research training
at the Observational Station at our Institute of Astronomy and other observatories in Ukraine.
The postgraduate study is performed with the specialties in Heliophysics and Solar System
Physics, Astrophysics and Radio Astronomy, Positional Astronomy and Celestial Mechanics
under the supervision of the scientists of the Institute of Astronomy. PhD students are
required to complete and defend an original dissertation after three years of full-time
study or four years of partial-time study.
